Colida Dreadfulwater, or Red to her family and friends, was born on March 29th 1930 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Easley and Cynthia Stayathome (Studie) Buzzard. She had one brother John and one sister Annie at home, and attended school at Chilocco Indian School. She began her working career doing nursery work for Ozark nursery. On July 27th, 1972, she married Levi Dreadfulwater in Park Hill, OK. Red was a people person, always happy to spend time talking over a cup of coffee. An accomplished cook, she made the best chicken and dumplings and was always ready to set an extra space at the table. Gospel singing was a favorite pastime, she loved the old time songs. She was proud of her Cherokee heritage and campaigned for the welfare of the Cherokee Tribe in various campaigns. Her family was very special to her and every time the Studie family gathered for a reunion, Red was there. She was happy just to be with her family, sharing stories and making memories. A Christian by faith, she passed from this life on May 17th, 2017 in Muskogee, OK with her family by her side. She was 87 years old. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Levi, her mother and father, and two sisters, Annie Ruth Buzzard-Holmes and Mary Jane Stayathome.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, John Stayathome and his wife, Oleta of Tahlequah, OK as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
